Blogging By Email

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

I’ve just installed the Postie WordPress plugin, it’s great.  You can post via email, including posting of images as you can see below.  The posts below were actually from a mobile phone that can send email over GPRS, which is pretty trick.  OK the moblogging thing has been around forever but it’s still cool, k?

I’ve now edited this post to be more useful but the gist of it is still the same.  The advantages of posting to a blog by email are:

  • you’re doing it from a simple mail client, i.e. anywhere
  • you can keep a copy of your blog post in your mail client’s sent items
  • the blog software handles inserting pictures and all that boring crap
  • you can put in HTML formatting if you want to, but you can just use plain text enter-enter-enter formatting if you want and the blog software works it all out
  • it’s just cool

Cheers,
Glenn

PS It does feel as though you need to sign off as if you’re writing an email though, it’s a bit weird.

mosso.com clustered hosting system

Sunday, March 19th, 2006

Wow.  mosso is the “world’s first hosting system” (emphasis mine) available to resellers who can leverage its super high availability and performance thanks to hosting on multiple clusters of machines instead of relying on a single box.  This takes web hosting to the next level.  For only $100 USD per month you get 2000MB transfer, 80GB of storage and unlimited domains!  I’ll certainly be looking further into this — it’s cheaper than a dedicated server and if it works as they say, it should be a lot more reliable as well.
