Wisdom of the crowd for weight loss

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

At Chermside shopping centre north of Brisbane yesterday (Sunday), which has recently been expanded with a bunch of new shops and food places, including a dreamy donuts. Dreamy is about 90% as good as krispy kreme donuts but just dont quite have that super light “you’re eating a thousand empty calories” fluffiness about them. Anyway, this crowd of people prevented me expanding my bloated waistline any further, so for that i thank them. I wish i could scrounge together a few million bucks for a franchise of my own, donuts sell like crazy!

Rampant Consumerism

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Speaking of photos taken with camera phones (see my office) I bought a new phone on ebay. It’s a Sony Ericsson W810i, which is a Walkman-branded phone that plays MP3s from up to 4GB of Memory Stick Duo memory. It has a 2MP camera, which ties it into this post :)

As I’ve started getting to and from work on a 30 to 45 minute bus ride, I was getting drawn into the iPod hype. Then I realised that I need a new phone anyway, and spending between $200 and $400 on an iPod Nano is ridiculous when it’s something else to carry as well as being extra cost and locking me into using bloody iTunes. Plus the W810i is smaller than my T630.

So remain perched on the edge of your seat for updates and photos from the fiery two megapixel MP3 player of telephones.

If you’re looking for info about mobile phones, including honest opinions as well as raw technical specs and pictures of a phone from every angle including the guts of all its menus and more than you probably want to know, mobile-review.com is awesome. It’s a Russian site, but the people who run it are insane and they know everything about phones. Plus, the Russian engrish is hilarious sometimes. The comparisons of the T630 and T610 are a good example; they refer to the feel of buttons, menus, camera resolution etc in the context of the previous model.

The easiest way to find a review of the phone you’re looking for on that site is to use our good mate, Google. Type in something like

t630 site:mobile-review.com

and the first result you get will normally be the phone you’re looking for. Here are some to try, including the crazy-ass ridiculous Nokia N95, that does full DVD-quality video, as well as a 5MP still camera and a Carl Zeiss lens. Nutso. Or the amazing Nokia 1610, which supports receiving SMS only, has 5 ringing tones and a 16-symbol display!
